SK: 1st ability is usually the best upgrade.
Giant: Try to get him out 1st round to increase his passive HP growth. 2nd upgrade is helpful if you need more area damage. 3rd upgrade is great for round 5 - I'd sell Defuser to get it.
Defuster & Lumberjack: try to get them both out by 2nd round for the +2 Elixir per round.
Defuser: 3rd upgrade (Disarm), then 1st upgrade (faster attack). Sell him if you wish, for the extra 2 Elixer, but only do so if you're able to bring him back that round, as you get 2 Elixir for him and Lumberjack being out. Consider keeping him for the Disarm if you're facing a Melee heavy deck, and want to shut down a PEKKA, or similar unit.
Villager: 2nd upgrade (heal Hero), then 1st upgrade (Hero does more damage).
