Guide
Darryl is a very tanky brawler, but he can also be used very well to deal damage if close to an enemy. So, why not combine these? Here are some strategies I often use as a Darryl main:Tar Barrel Gadget:Using this gadget can help you in tight situations like rushing the ball in Brawl Ball, preventing enemies to get close to a teammate that is rushing the ball, protect the goal, etc. but can also help you to prevent enemies to escape when you roll into them. If you can get an entire team in range, if you have a Mortis or a Fang in your own team, it will make it significantly easier to team wipe. Also, if you are running away from an Edgar or Lily, You will be just out of range.
Steel Hoops Star Power:The 2 seconds of shield might not sound like much, but hear me out : It gives you some extra time to run away from long-range brawlers and if you are the one chasing after somebody, when you roll after them and activate the gadget 1 of 3 thing will happen: 1. They will spam shots and will remain with about 1 ammo when your shield wears off, after which it's a free kill(if you didn't kill them already). 2. They will try to act smart by not attacking while your shield is on, but that is useless since you will be able to do big damage in that period of time. 3. They will simply run away. If they run away while doing damage to you (ex: Piper super) it will put you closer to charging your super again. if not (ex: mortis) you can simply stall them a little longer.
Speed and Shield Gear:Supering onto someone while having full shield will make Darryl very hard to kill, while the speed gear will give him more mobility in bushes. If you are not playing on a grassy map, I recommend the damage gear.
Game Modes
Brawl Ball
With this build, dribbling is a lot more effective. Try to rush the ball as much as possible to add pressure on the enemy side, while also using the super to knock the ball off enemies. Don't forget to use Tar Barrel if necessary.
Knockout
If you are playing in knockout, I recommend stalling until the poison sets in. By the time this happens, your super should be almost ready, creating the perfect moment to rush a long-range brawler.
Showdown
Using Tar Barrel helps you intervene in fights going on while Steel Hoops will keep you alive while doing so. Also, as I already mentioned, you can very easily super into a brawler for an almost guaranteed kill or run away with health to spare.
Works Well With
Doug
If you are playing Brawl Ball, Darryl can get the ball right off the start and run to the enemy goal all the while Doug is keeping him alive. This strategy is hardly countered by knockback and stuns tho. Doug can also give Darryl an extra life if in a tough situation, creating an almost guaranteed kill.
