Gene has magic hands. Is the joke clear yet?
Lamp Blowout
All enemies close to Gene are instantly pushed back. If at least one enemy Brawler is within range, Gene will also restore 10% of his max health.
Spirit Slap
Gene's Magic Hand also damages enemies, dealing 2000 damage on hit.
Talk to the Hand
Extend the reach of Gene's Magic Hand.
Damage
Deal 15% extra Damage when your Brawler is below 50% Health.
Guide
Gene is truly a support of all time. Probably the most annoying poke brawler ever imagined, conceptualized and created. He won't do a lot of damage at long range, but he will constantly ensure that you're not regenerating. That and pull you out of your hiding spots. With his magic... hands. He's uhh, handy to have in a team. I'm not funny, give me a break.Anyway - Gene is the quintessential hook support of any hero based shooter but he's a quirked up lamp boy with a lil' bit of... swag? Flair? He can take the spot of an offensive support (via Vengeful Spirit and Spirit Slap), passive healing support (Magic Puffs and Lamp Blowout) or something in between (this build.)
You'll switch between those builds depending on the match-up, but if you want something for general use and don't have enough coins to spend for everything mentioned (which is a common problem actually, devs pls fix) - then this specific one is for you.For gadgets you'll be using Talk to the Hand with Damage or Shield depending, again, on your match-up.In terms of brawlers he works well with, uhhh - there's too many to list. Do count on short range DPS characters to make the best out of it though. Tanks too. Just don't grab an Edgar with a super. That'd be dumb methinks.
Counters:
High total damage or total health brawlers - If something can survive more than 3 of your hits close range, or you can't survive 3 of theirs then direct confrontation is a pretty big no-no. Poke or go all in only if they're low enough to take out. Same goes with grabbing a Bull. Just no.
Heist as a gamemode - Please don't pick Gene in heist. You can't grab the safe. Don't ask me why I said that.
Autoattacks only - You can actually miss. Gene's projectile isn't insanely fast at max range before splitting, so try to lead your shots.
Game Modes
Bounty
Poke any enemy that tries to approach. Grab anyone that is low enough to be taken out by your regular attacks. Try doing this with as much ammo as possible. You have 6k damage with 3 shots, 7.5k with 3 shots and hypercharge, and 8.6k with hypercharge AND low health damage gear bonus.
Wipeout
Similar strats to Bounty. If all else fails, try getting into a position where you can actually use your gadget to heal and turn on the enemy.
Hot Zone
Usually these maps have an an enclosed area where your whole attack can hit, so take advantage of that while staying out of short range damage dealers.
Gem Grab
Give the enemy gem carrier an express trip to the respawn screen and steal their gems. Try not to use it on enemies with less than 2k hp. Especially if you don't want 2 thumbs down from your teammates.
